Trying to impress a new honey with a kickass Detroit date that won’t freeze your buns off? Or maybe you’re just tired of having the winter lazies and the back and forth “I don’t know, what do you want to do?” routine?
Well we are BACK, baby. Y’all loved our first Detroiter’s Guide to a Winter-Friendly Date Night so much that we’re here for PART 2!
Dinner Date:
Wright & Company: Located on the second floor of the beautiful 1500 Woodward, Wright & Co is an elevated gastropub with great ambiance for a date- the perfect blend of classy and casual, in our opinion. Plus, they serve so many delicious small plates that are perfect for sharing.
Marrow: Since it’s fairly recent opening in West Village, Marrow has quickly become a Detroit favorite. With flavorful food made from local ingredients, included hand-butchered in-house meats, this is one way to prove to your date that you know what good food is!

Ima: To me, nothing sounds better than hot noodles during the cold winter months. Talk about cozy! With locations in Corktown, Madison Heights, and now Midtown, getting delicious noodles and other dishes at Ima is a piece of cake.
Green Dot Stables: This Corktown stable-turned-foodie-staple serves as a more casual date destination, but it sure is cozy in the winter. Cheap mix & match sliders, delicious flavors, cheap beer and cocktails? What more could you want? Don’t forget to split a mystery dessert!
Magnet: With an open-fired, Mediterranean & Middle-Eastern inspired menu, Magnet in Core City is simply DELICIOUS. Put that on top of a unique ambiance, incredible tasting menu, and great service— trust us, it’s a super cool date spot and arguably one of the city’s best new restaurants.

Red Coat Tavern (Royal Oak): One of my favorite kind of dates is, of course, a burger-and-beers date, and Red Coat Tavern delivers. If you’re interested in venturing a little outside the D, head to the Redcoat location in Royal Oak for one of the best burger spots in the state since the 70s.
Couples’ Cocktails
Film Lab in Hamtramck: Creators of the brand new Film Lab describe it as a “bar and microcinema” showing classic, indie, and local films while serving cocktails in a cozy space. The bar also has trivia nights and karaoke every Friday night! You can check their website for show schedules, as well as updates on the progress on adding a second floor!
Til the end of January, the Standby will be decorated like a dreamy under-the-sea fairytale and feature cocktails inspired by the ocean. Make your winter more whimsical by stopping by— located in the Belt!

Ready Player One: Barcades are always a fun first date idea. Believe it or not, some Pinball or Pac-man can be a good icebreaker! Ready Player One downtown is especially great because they give free game tokens for every food or drink purchase! Make sure to try the yummy shawarma fries!
High Bar: For couples with a fear of heights— beware! It is called High Bar for a reason. Part of the new Highlands steakhouse on the 71st floor of the Ren Cen, High Bar offers spectacular views, spectacular cocktails (especially Scotch), and even spectacular desserts.

Kiesling: This cozy bar is located inside a historic building that’s contained different watering holes since the early 1900s. While Kiesling has quickly become a Detroit favorite by many, we’re choosing it as a great casual date spot that’s more elevated than a dive. Also, their toddy’s are SO good and perfect to warm you up during the cold winter months.
Candy Bar: Uh hello, have you ever seen a more romantic bar in your entire life?! The rosy glow, velvet chairs, and gorgeous chandelier of Candy Bar will make you feel like it’s Valentine’s Day no matter what day it is. (Hint: Candy Bar is located in the Siren Hotel, which would make an awesome staycation.)

Lost River: Take your date to paradise… well, sorta. Lost River is the best tiki bar on the east side of the city with fun drinks that are sure to chase the winter blues away. Hint: If you like creamy cocktails, we recommend the “Morning Routine”— it has Fruity Pebbles in it!

Willis Show Bar: Midtown classic Willis Show Bar is your one-stop-shop for delicious drinks and fun live entertainment, including jazz, cabaret, burlesque, comedy shows, and DJs. Whether you dress up or down (just don’t wear shorts, jerseys, or sandals), you’re still bound to impress your date with a super cool evening in these smooth digs.

Activities:
DIA- How lucky are we to have one of the most beautiful art museums in the country? Spend a romantic day strolling and looking at the Detroit Institute of Arts’s beautiful resident pieces, or buy tickets to one of the touring exhibitions! The amazing Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera exhibition is returning to the DIA February 7!
MOCAD- If you’re looking for a different kind of artsy date— looking for something a little more eccentric and modern than the classic works at the DIA— then try the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit! Our recommendation is bundling up this winter and checking out the Robolights, a fun, outdoor exhibition that is currently the MOCAD’s most popular.

Planetarium shows at Wayne State- How about spending a night under the stars while still staying warm indoors? The Wayne State Planetarium hosts public shows on most Friday nights at both 7 PM and 8:30 PM! We recommend buying tickets ahead of time online— two-thirds of the seats are reservable and WSU leaves one-third of seats available for walk-ins at the door.

Tour the Masonic Temple- Have an interest in Detroit history and architecture? The beautiful Masonic Temple has scheduled tours to view parts of the venue that are typically off-limits to the public. There are still tickets available for the tour scheduled on February 2! Click here for more info!
Fowling Warehouse in Hamtramck- This is a great group idea! Half football, half bowling, and lots of fun! The rules are easy- knock down your opponents’ 10 pins before they get yours… the game is harder than it looks though, especially when you add a full bar into the mix.
Sid Gold’s Request Room- Sid Gold’s Detroit might make you feel like a jazz or cabaret singers for the night, which is… sort of a frequent daydream of mine. Anyways, Sid Gold’s is downtown Detroit’s only live piano bar, so even if you sing off-key, you’ll still feel classy AF. You can check out their karaoke schedules as well as each pianist’s song list on the Sid Gold website.
The cold winter months are no excuse for slacking on having fun with bae. It’s easy to fall into the “let’s just stay in”, but we live in/near such a beautiful city with so much to see and do no matter what season! So put away the PJ’s and take your sweetie out on the town for a date they won’t soon forget.

XOXO,
